  • Forth Catholic Dogma: Assumption of Mary

Is the praise that the Catholic Church gives to Mary hold up to scripture? Mary is worshipped as a goddess by the catholic community, however surprising little is said about Mary in the Bible. According to the Catholic Church, they have declared dogmas of Mary elevating her to goddess (don’t believe me, click on the links all from Catholic sources). Let’s examine

    Forth Dogma: Assumption of Mary

By the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory..

Simply put Mary upon her death entered heaven. This dogma mentions the other three dogmas 1) Immaculate [Conception] 2) Mother of God 3) ever Virgin as if it gives it give it more creditability. Thus she fulfilling these 3 dogmas in her life is now in heaven. It goes further...

Having overcome death, she might be taken up body and soul to the glory of heaven where, as Queen, she sits in splendor at the right hand of her Son, the immortal King of the Ages

Finally it is our hope that belief in Mary's bodily Assumption into heaven will make our belief in our own resurrection stronger and render it more effective.

She supposedly sits at the right hand of Christ as Queen and strengthens our belief of resurrection. That’s a handful and there are so many things wrong with this it is difficult to start.

Firstly, when one dies the soul is in a state of sleep. It awaits the resurrection so the false concept you go to heaven or hell when you die is straight out wrong and in fact its roots are in paganism. The bible says it clear that a soul is in a state of sleep in death:
    • Daniel shows that the dead are they that "sleep in the dust of the earth" and upon resurrection  "shall awake" (Daniel 12:2)
    • The apostles referred to those that died as asleep (1 Corinthians 11:30, 15:51; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-16; 2 Peter 3:4)
    • Jesus said he was going to see Lazarus as he is "sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep". The disciples protested as they feared being killed by the Jews and eventually said "Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well". Then Jesus clarifies and speaks plainly "Lazarus is dead" (John 11:11-13)
    • Jesus taking of a girl that died said plainly "Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps" (Luke 8:52)
    • Solomon says "living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing". Thus the dead are not conscious (Ecclesiastes 9:5)
    • Only the living and not the dead can worship the Lord (Isaiah 38:18-19)
Secondly the idea that the soul goes to heaven is of pagan origin. The Pagans looked at the stars and saw different levels of chaos starting with the stars moving in perfect mathematical harmony then seven stars which move erratically in the night sky with increasing unpredictability the closer they are to the earth of which is where complete chaos rules. These stars they called "wandering" in the Greek which is Planet and these seven are the ones they can see with the naked eye. As they believed the earth was the center of the universe they were unable to explain the movement of these planets. So they concluded that our soul must lift up to the heavens where the outer most heaven is perfection thus it need to goes through stages of purification. This is usually done by denying yourself the pleasures of this world and pursing knowledge so it will make your soul lighter and in the next life it will traverse through the layers of heaven. If you don’t then your soul will get demoted and return back as a woman or an animal or go to the depths of this earth as they believed the soul was immortal it must go somewhere.

Funny enough the Catholic Church teaches an immortal soul even though the bible says the exact opposite. According to the Catholic Church

"Man, though made of body and soul, is a unity". The doctrine of the faith affirms that the spiritual and immortal soul is created immediately by God.

What does the bible then say on this matter?
    • The soul that sin dies (Ezekiel 18:4)
    • Jesus own mouth states that the soul can be killed and it dies in hell (Matthew 10:28)
    • Revelation shows us that Hell is the "second death" (Revelation 20:14)
When you piece all the scriptures on a topic it is so much clearer. The bible is teaching us these simple truths
    • The soul is mortal thus can die
    • The physical death of a person where the body dies and the soul sleeps. This is the first death
    • The soul sleeps until resurrection (the second resurrection is for all those that died not truly knowing Christ, included most of tradition Christianity today. There they will get a chance to know him)
    • The spiritual death of a person is where the soul dies by fire from God
Hell is created for Satan and the demons not for man (Matthew 25:41)! With this understanding hell is not where men are tortured forever and ever instead man is devoured by fire so their existence is no more thus it is the real death or as the bible calls it the second death! You see, for men to be tortured for ever they have to become immortal and eternal life is a gift and not given accept Christ (Romans 6:23). Notice this in the Satan final rebellion where men and Satan are together both will suffer different fate. The men are killed by fire from God thus are no more (Revelation 20:9, Malachi 4:3) and the devil joins the rest of the demons in Hell (Revelation 20:10).

Thirdly, you don’t go to heaven. Instead heaven comes to us. Upon Christ return his kingdom is setup up under heaven on the earth not in heaven. The bible states
    • Jesus will be on the earth again (Zechariah 14:4)
    • Jesus will be the new King of this earth (Zechariah 14:9)
    • Saints will be given cities and nations to rule over (Luke 19:15-19)
    • The nations will worship Jesus in Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:17, Micah 4:1-4)
    • The nations will turn their weapons of war to tools used for farming nor learn about war anymore (Isaiah 2:4, Micah 4:1-4)
After the 1000 years there is a new heaven and earth of which the "new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven" to the earth (Revelation 21:2)! Then God the Father will dwell with us on the earth (Revelation 21:3)!

So this dogma as you can see is pagan to its core. It goes back to pagan goddess worship inspired by Satan himself. It teaches many false hoods of going to heaven or hell, of immortal soul. The fact that they call Mary Queen of Heaven shows its pagan roots (Jeremiah 7:18).

    God Bless, In Jesus Name
And ye shall know the truth, and
the truth shall make you free
    John 8:32
